It was a routine commercial launch by Chinese standards: the twelfth Jielong-3 mission overall, the fourth so far in 2026, using a solid-fueled rocket capable of putting up to 1,500 kilograms into low Earth orbit. For the Philippines, it meant something more immediate: hours before liftoff, the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) issued advisories warning fishermen and vessels to steer clear of a stretch of the country’s exclusive economic zone off Cagayan, with a projected debris drop zone roughly 94 nautical miles from Babuyan Island and 143 nautical miles from Santa Ana.
