About Proficio
Proficio is a Philippine fintech company building SMEVE (the SME Valuation Engine)—the credit intelligence workbench that helps banks and MFIs read the business behind the borrower. Founded on 19 March 2024 and headquartered in San Pablo City, Laguna, our team of 11 to 25 people is funded at pre-seed.
SMEVE takes an SME lending team from the borrower’s raw file to the Credit Committee pack in one structured workflow. The loan officer enters each figure once, and every credit document—from the call report to the offer letter—is built from that single record. SMEVE cross-checks declared figures against bank statements, evaluates whether the underlying business is viable alongside traditional debt-service ratios, benchmarks performance against sector data, and keeps the source page attached to every number.
Shaped in practitioner workshops with Philippine lending teams and piloted on live SME files at a BSP-regulated pilot bank—where lending officers rated the methodology’s early spreadsheet tools 4.0 out of 5 for usefulness—SMEVE brings institutional valuation discipline to SME credit.
Co-founder, President and CFO Jimmy Lin, CA—a Chartered Accountant (CAANZ) and the 9th Certified Business Valuation Specialist in New Zealand—designed the business valuation methodology at the core of SMEVE.
The Problem They're Solving
Across the Philippines, creditworthy SMEs are routinely turned down or under-lent because their paperwork fails to reflect their true operating strength. Financial statements are thin, revenue often moves in cash, and the real drivers of repayment capacity sit outside standard tax filings.
At the same time, manual credit workflows introduce operational risk inside the bank. A single SME loan application is typically retyped across half a dozen disconnected spreadsheets and templates, causing figures to drift with every copy and forcing loan officers to spend hours reconciling numbers rather than analysing the business.
SMEVE replaces fragmented spreadsheets with one auditable record per borrower—verifying cash flows against bank statements and structuring the commercial evidence behind every credit file.
Who They Serve
Rural banks, thrift banks, cooperative banks, and microfinance institutions (MFIs) across the Philippines that lend to growing small and medium enterprises. SMEVE equips the entire lending line—from the account officer conducting the field visit to the credit analyst and the Credit Committee—evaluating borrowers in sectors such as food manufacturing, logistics and trucking, construction supply, and light fabrication.
What Makes Them Different
SMEVE evaluates the enterprise itself, not just historical paperwork. Alongside cash-flow verification and financial ratio checks, it applies formal business valuation discipline to test commercial viability, margin durability, and working-capital reality.
Every figure in SMEVE stays anchored to its source document, and every analytical flag is framed as a targeted diligence question for the borrower rather than an opaque black-box score. Lenders stay in command: SMEVE structures the file and surfaces every gap as a question for the borrower, the loan officer writes the recommendation, and the Credit Committee decides.
SMEVE runs alongside a bank's existing core banking and loan origination systems, with role-based permissions and a complete audit trail.
