About Craft Ventures

Craft Ventures is a San Francisco-based venture capital firm founded in 2017 by David O. Sacks (a former PayPal and Yammer executive) and Bill Lee (formerly of Remarq and Big Fish Games). The firm positions itself as being built by founders and operators for founders, with additional leadership including StubHub founder Jeff Fluhr and EarthLink founder Sky Dayton, who joined as general and venture partners in 2018.

Craft has raised roughly $850 million in total assets across its fund vehicles, including a $712 million early-stage fund (Craft Ventures IV) and a $608 million growth fund (Growth II), both announced in November 2023. The firm has backed companies such as CloudKitchens, the identity-verification company Harbor, crypto custody firm BitGo (an acquirer of a Craft portfolio company), autonomous cybersecurity platform Horizon3.ai, and agentic security company Neo.

Investment Thesis

Craft Ventures invests primarily in SaaS and marketplace businesses at the early stage, while also running dedicated growth-stage funds to continue backing portfolio companies as they mature. The firm emphasizes hands-on operational support from its own team of former founders and operators, reflecting its stated goal of providing the kind of practical, experience-based guidance its own founders wished they'd had when building their earlier companies.
