About IVP

IVP (Institutional Venture Partners) was founded in 1980 by Reid W. Dennis, who began his investment career in 1952 and had earlier founded the predecessor firm, Institutional Venture Associates, in 1974 with backing from American Express. IVP is headquartered in Menlo Park, California, with additional offices in San Francisco and London (opened August 2023). The firm currently manages approximately $7.0 billion in assets, with its most recent fund, Fund XVIII, raising $1.6 billion in 2024.

IVP focuses on expansion- and late-stage technology companies, with general partner Jules Maltz describing its strategy as targeting "the 10 to 12 fastest growing, most prominent late stage tech companies each year." Over nearly five decades the firm has invested in roughly 200 companies and facilitated around 85 IPOs (as of 2008), with a portfolio spanning Seagate, Netflix, Twitter, Dropbox, Slack, Coinbase, and CrowdStrike, plus more recent European investments including Wise, UiPath, DeepL, and MySQL. No Philippines-specific investment activity was confirmed from available sources.

Investment Thesis

IVP deliberately concentrates each year on a small number (roughly 10-12) of the fastest-growing, most prominent late-stage technology companies rather than casting a wide early-stage net, writing large late-stage growth checks into businesses that have already demonstrated strong product-market fit and are heading toward an IPO or major liquidity event.
