About Khosla Ventures

Khosla Ventures is a Menlo Park, California-based venture capital firm founded in 2004 by Vinod Khosla, a former general partner at Kleiner Perkins and co-founder of Sun Microsystems. As of October 2021 the firm managed approximately $15 billion in assets, and by November 2023 it had closed $3.1 billion across three new funds. It maintains dedicated seed vehicles alongside larger growth-focused funds, investing from seed through late stage.

Khosla Ventures targets internet, computing, mobile technology, artificial intelligence, financial services, agriculture, healthcare, and clean technology. Its portfolio includes DoorDash (invested 2013, $72B IPO valuation in 2020), Stripe, Square, Instacart (seed investment 2012, $11B market cap at 2020 IPO), Affirm, GitLab, and OpenAI (Khosla was OpenAI's first VC investor, in 2018). It has also made notable early climate/deep-tech bets in Commonwealth Fusion Systems and QuantumScape, and raised a $405 million vehicle in October 2024 specifically for a further OpenAI investment. No Philippines-specific investment activity was confirmed from available sources.

Investment Thesis

Khosla Ventures is known for backing high-risk, high-reward technical bets — from early internet/mobile/fintech companies to unproven deep-tech and clean-energy science, and early conviction AI investments (including being OpenAI's first venture backer) — across the full spectrum from seed through growth stage, reflecting founder Vinod Khosla's own stated preference for funding technology risk that other investors avoid.
