About Kleiner Perkins

Kleiner Perkins is one of Silicon Valley's oldest and most storied venture capital firms, founded in 1972 by Eugene Kleiner, Thomas Perkins, Frank J. Caufield, and Brook Byers. It is headquartered in Menlo Park, California, with additional offices in San Francisco and Shanghai, China. Longtime partner John Doerr currently serves as chairman. As of 2026 the firm manages roughly $21 billion in assets across 22 venture funds and six growth funds; by 1996 it had already funded around 260 companies totaling $880 million.

Kleiner Perkins invests across seed, early, and growth stages, concentrated in consumer, enterprise, hard tech, and fintech, with an expanded emphasis in recent years on life sciences and artificial intelligence. Its historic investments include Google ($12 million in 1999), Amazon.com (an $8 million investment that generated over $1 billion in returns), and Netscape; more recent notable bets include Anthropic, Waymo, and Applied Intuition. No Philippines-specific investment activity or presence was found.

Investment Thesis

Kleiner Perkins backs founders from seed through growth stage in categories it believes are undergoing structural technology shifts — historically the internet and enterprise software waves, and more recently hard tech, fintech, life sciences, and artificial intelligence. Its long operating history and large fund base let it write both early conviction checks and larger growth-stage follow-ons in its highest-performing companies.
