About SunFund
SunFund was founded in 2023 by John Altomonte, an environmental scientist with over a decade of clean-energy experience who previously led Verne Energy Solutions and advised the World Wildlife Fund, to make rooftop solar financially accessible to ordinary Filipino households and small businesses. Rather than requiring the roughly ₱180,000-plus upfront cost of a residential solar system, SunFund’s “Solar as a Service” model covers the full installation and lets customers pay a fixed monthly rate — over terms ranging from one to twenty years — that’s designed to come in lower than their existing electricity bill.
SunFund handles the full customer journey: a same-day property assessment, an agreement signed within one to two days, system activation within about two weeks, and ongoing remote monitoring and maintenance through a companion mobile app that tracks energy usage and savings. The company sources equipment through partnerships with more than a dozen solar panel and inverter brands (including Canadian Solar, Jinko Solar, Trina Solar, and Enphase) and serves both residential customers and commercial clients, including Philippine dealerships for Hyundai and Mitsubishi.
SunFund closed a $500,000 pre-seed round led by Kaya Founders to expand operations. As of 2025 the company reported zero payment defaults across 50-plus completed residential and commercial installations, and had financed rooftop solar projects worth roughly ₱67.84 million (about $11.6 million) that year — addressing a market where Philippine households pay among the highest electricity rates in Southeast Asia.
The Problem They're Solving
Most Filipino homeowners and small businesses want to cut their electricity costs with rooftop solar, but the roughly ₱180,000+ upfront cost of a full system is out of reach for the large majority of households, even though the Philippines has some of the highest electricity prices in Southeast Asia.
Who They Serve
Filipino homeowners and small-to-medium businesses who want to reduce electricity costs through rooftop solar but cannot afford the full upfront cost of a system.
What Makes Them Different
SunFund removes the upfront-cost barrier entirely by owning and financing the solar system itself and charging a fixed monthly subscription lower than the customer's existing electricity bill, rather than selling systems outright or requiring a traditional loan — underwritten in part using the customer's own power-bill payment history.
Traction & Milestones
$500,000 pre-seed round led by Kaya Founders; zero payment defaults across 50+ completed installations; financed roughly ₱67.84 million (~$11.6 million) of rooftop solar installations in 2025.
