About EDGE Tutor
EDGE Tutor is a Philippine edtech company that spun off from Edukasyon.ph (see Edukasyon.ph’s own entry in this directory) in 2022-2023, with Edukasyon.ph founder Henry Motte-Muñoz taking on the CEO role at the new, separately-operating venture. EDGE Tutor launched in May 2022 as a paid, on-demand K-12 live tutoring service in English, Math, and Tagalog for students from Kindergarten through Grade 10, before repositioning as a business-to-business outsourcing company that supplies fully managed, white-labeled online tutors — in English and mathematics — to education and training organizations around the world.
The company’s core supply-side model centers on a highly selective hiring process for Filipino educators: it describes accepting only around 3% of teacher applicants, and says it has trained more than 1,000 licensed educators through that process. What started as a Philippines-focused consumer tutoring product has since expanded its client base into the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East, which the company reports grew from about 5% of its revenue in 2022 to roughly 30% by 2024, with a stated goal of surpassing 50% by 2026.
EDGE Tutor raised an $800,000 seed round in 2023, followed by a $1 million Pre-Series A round in February 2025 led by Seaborne Capital and M Venture Partners, with participation from Kaya Founders, Orvel Ventures, IdeaSpace, Lorinet Foundation, and other angel investors — bringing its total disclosed funding to roughly $1.8 million. The company has stated the new capital will fund scaling its tutor capacity from about 1,000 to 5,000 by 2026 and investing in AI-assisted tools for teacher training, quality control, and lesson delivery, while its own founder has publicly maintained that AI is a supplement to, not a replacement for, live human tutoring.
The Problem They're Solving
Global tutoring and education companies need a reliable, quality-controlled supply of qualified live online tutors, but building and managing that hiring, training, and quality-assurance pipeline directly is expensive and difficult to scale, especially in English and mathematics.
Who They Serve
Global tutoring companies and education organizations that want to outsource their live tutor supply, plus (in its original 2022 form) individual K-12 families in the Philippines seeking on-demand tutoring.
What Makes Them Different
EDGE Tutor treats tutor recruitment and quality control itself as the core product — a highly selective hiring funnel (roughly 3% acceptance) feeding a trained, white-labeled Filipino teacher workforce — rather than building its own consumer-facing tutoring brand, letting other education companies plug in vetted tutors under their own name.
Traction & Milestones
Revenue from the Americas, Europe, and the Middle East grew from about 5% of the business in 2022 to roughly 30% by 2024; over 1,000 licensed educators trained through its hiring pipeline; an $800,000 seed round in 2023 followed by a $1 million Pre-Series A round in February 2025, for roughly $1.8 million in total disclosed funding.
